The Difference Between Being Here and Being Present

Remember roll call when we were kids?

And as the teacher "called roll"
we each waited to hear our name

so that we could answer

"here"...
"here"...
"here"...

"present"

(because there was always at least one student that deviated from the standard "here" reply)

to answer

"present"

And today as I rush around...

moving back and forth between
here and there

trying to balance

rules
roles
responsibilities

(with only five minutes until the next move)

I have finally come to understand the vast difference between...

"being here"

and

"being present"

Roll Call... Are you here or present?
