Five Things You Need in Hawaii (w/ The Harris Family)

Aloha...
means "hello" in Hawaiian

So join our featured family as they say "aloha"
to five essentials for the perfect Hawaiian Vacation
--------------------------------------
"The Single Sisters"

Los Angeles to O'ahu, Hawaii
(approx. 2562 miles)

Every girls' trip needs
at least five things...

1. Matching T-shirts

The party begins as soon as you hit the airport, and your
matching shirts will immediately let the people know

"These are my girls, and we're here for a reason"

Travel Tip:

People will stop to ask what you are celebrating and the
airline crew has been known to even show some "extra love"

Then...

when you arrive to your destination
step off the plane with style and confidence

letting every one know...

we came together
we leave together

2. Protective Eyewear

Sunglasses are not only fashionable, but according to FDA regulations
we should all be wearing eyewear with a 100% UVA rating

(to protect our eyes from solar radiation)

And besides the health benefits, shades can also help you
remain incognito while trying to relax at the beach or by the pool

(to prevent further vacation disruptions like)

aren't you the girl I saw on...

"Family Feud"
"Minute to Win It"
"The Revolution"

(in court)

because taking a break from
the classroom and the courtroom

is serious business...

3. Dresses and Swimwear

From sundresses to swimsuits
this includes everything that you are going to wear

including workout gear for...

Hiking and Island Exploration

Travel Tip:

Dress appropriately for the weather
and the activities on your itinerary

like...

Parasailing

Tours and Sightseeing

AND...

Even if you plan to play at the beach all day,
pack several nice outfits to wear out to dinner

The Single Sisters have mastered these rules...

keep it light
keep it airy
keep it classy

Travel Tip:

Rent a car and drive to Waikiki for
dinner, lounging, or high-end shopping!

4. Sunhats

an umbrella
sunscreen

provide another layer of protection if you plan
to sit out in the sun for extended periods of time

And for the people watching from their balconies?
Bless them with a mantra!

Life is good
so wake up and shine...

"Hello Sunshine"

5. Sandals and Pedicures

because whether you're showing up for...

brunch on the beach
or dinner further inland

perfect toes are a prerequisite!

(matching henna tattoos are a BONUS...)

Thank you Ladies!!

  1. So much fun! I appreciate you mentioning sunscreen because it's so easy for us ladies of color to dismiss it. I don't know how young you are but back when I was a kid in the 70s there was a TV show called That's My Mama. The actress who played the mother was Thereasa Merritt and she died from skin cancer in 1998. I had never heard of African-Americans getting skin cancer. So we girls(and guys) need to lather up!

Anyway, I've never been to Hawaii but if I were to go by essentials would be rather dull to some people. I would bring a crochet project and a book or two to read. I would need to search in vain for a tea house because this mama loves her tea! Depending upon which island, I would look up my old pastor. He started a Hope Chapel Hawaii back in 1983 and I was a new Christian. But I would also just find a quiet spot to worship the Lord and just take in His creation.

  2. Thank you Regina! You are right we were not traditionally raised to wear sunscreen, but "when you know better, you do better"!! I also think your essentials lists sound pretty interesting. Of course a good book (or two) is always in my bag, and YES I find it's such a blessing to worship the Lord surrounded by the beauty His creation. Places I've worshipped... on a private beach in Bali, a quiet balcony in Hawaii while watching the sun rise, and overlooking The Grand Canyon!
