On The Quest to "Cure" Boredom... w/ a Sheet of Paper

Who knew that boredom could be "cured" the first week of summer with a quick trip to the library?

I mean, for years now I've been telling my children to...

get a book
pick up a book
read a book

and once they did...

they just

put them down!

because for DAYS my house was soooo

and every time I turned around
I found them sitting in silence

all of the goodness that books can bring

(these are the moments us moms live for)

It was almost too good to be true...
and I wondered what would happen once they finished their books

(we're going back for more, of course)

but I was also curious to see if having

to create their own stories

would bring them just as much enjoyment as reading other people's work

I wondered...what they would do if given just a blank sheet of paper?

Then I remembered...

we had these blank books found a few months ago in the $1 zone of our favorite store

And when released with simple instructions to...

use what you have
ask for what you need

I waited to see if my children
would really be well on the path in their quest to "curing" boredom

once and for all!

Dream Big... or Die

It felt like a death

a slow invisible death

occurring in a room full of people
none of which who seemed to notice

I screamed

"Help me!"
"Can you hear me?"
"Somebody, please"

But everyone was focused on the power point presentation

and I realized that

who we are
who we each are

is God's gift to the world

He made us

for a reason

but when you allow someone else's dream to become your reality it feels like a death

a painfully slow and invisible death

So with only five minutes left
I scribbled these simple words on a notepad...

"wake up, dream big, and live free
because death ain't the only way to die"

It's time to wake up... and DREAM!

On The Quest To "Cure" Boredom...with a Trip to the Library

I honestly had no idea that some of you were waiting for this

until I realized
that I kept getting the same question

again and again...

"What are the kids up to this summer?"

Because last year we had fun with our summer lessons

as the children successfully

a summer business

Color*full Creations
creating a life full of color

But when our house flooded late last summer...

we lost a lot
gained a lot
purged a lot

and my "Ten weeks to better business" plan was one of the things misplaced during the shuffle

and since I have not had the time (nor the energy)

to re-create that entire process
the kids didn't want to continue making bracelets
and I wasn't going to force them

I decided to just let them have a "free range" summer

when my mother texted me one day to let me know that

the neighborhood power was out
the children were bored
and were complaining of

"nothing to do"

I was...

because I honestly cannot remember the last time that I was bored

(and since school had only been out for one week)

I realized my children were going to need "some things" to do

some structure
some form

So this summer...

I'm sending my children out on a quest to "cure" boredom!

Up first?

I released them into the library!

On Stage With The Father

You stand there on stage

gripping the mic

with small hands
trembling knees

But you're ready...

new suit
fresh cut

father standing by your side

as we all watch

Then you hesitate...

look up at him
and motion for him to lean down

so that you may whisper something into his ear

and after he has heard you

he leans down to whisper something back into yours

And those of us watching

then understand

because we are all standing on

some sort of stage
some sort of platform

facing an audience

with small hands and trembling knees

But we are ready...

sporting new suits
and fresh cuts

simply waiting

for Father to lean down

and whisper...

(sharing this today)

On Father's Shoulders

When I was a little girl my father used to lift me

up onto his shoulders
to ride
and rest
a while

and in looking back I can see how those experiences allowed me the opportunity to
dream big
view the world from a different perspective
see more
Well, isn't that exactly what fathers do?
walk beside you
and because your legs are
he lifts you
every now and then to allow you to just ride for a while,
resting on his shoulders
And when you're resting with father you see
than you could when you were just walking beside him
and then you know that
the world
the path
the journey
that you are traveling together
is much bigger than just what's in your view
Father can see ahead of you so
the safest thing...
the smartest thing...
the surest thing...
is to walk beside him, holding his hand, confident that every now and then
he'll stop and lift you up onto his shoulders

by For King and Country
My help comes from You
You're right here, pulling me through
You carry my weakness, my sickness, my brokenness all on Your shoulders
Your shoulders

My help comes from You
You are my rest, my rescue
I don't have to see to believe that You're lifting me up on Your shoulders
Your shoulders

What My Heart Sings... "Touch The Sky"

It had surely been one of "those kind of weeks"...

You know the kind
that make you
cry out
call out
fall out?
And by Day Three during one of "those kind of weeks"
you're certain enough to be at the point where you're willing to
do something
try something
seek something

so you tell God that you're ready

and when He doesn't respond

for Him to

say something
do something
move something

and it appears that

He's just stopped to look at you like you're a toddler
having a tantrum in the aisle at the grocery store

He's just stopped to look

and is standing there

until He quietly speaks and asks...

"You finished yet?"
and its not until then that you realize that its already Day Four

and that you're still on the floor

causing an unnecessary scene on Aisle 7
because He's

right here
was here
is here
has been all along
simply waiting for you to
look up
reach up
fall down
and touch the sky
"Touch The Sky"
by Hillsong UNITED
My heart beating, my soul breathing
I found my life when I laid it down
Upward falling, spirit soaring
I touch the sky when my knees hit the ground
