Back in 1981 we sang... "Call Him Up"

I remember as a little girl watching the choir
at Greater Harvest COGIC

music jumping
robes flowing
church rocking

(and the girl with the tambourine at the end of the row?)

I knew at 5 years old that I wanted to be her

the choir sang this and the entire church exploded
and I knew at 5 years old that I really just wanted the chance to be myself

and some 35 years later...

something about this song still makes me happy
and I jump when I hear it

because I feel

and remember
and know

that I still... just can't stop!

The First Song I Learned... "Oh Happy Day"

I've been "musically reminiscing" all year now...

a song
a week

(actually 40 years of music that has made me smile)

but this will not be a true representation until
I have also shared my favorite choir songs

because this music has been a big part of my life (35 years!)

and I will never forget my very first Musical Director
Mr. Patrick Gagan

who taught us how to love the music

respect the song

sing together

with this...

Remembering 2016 with... Jericho

It's no coincidence that this song landed here...

(on the two-year anniversary of our house flood)

as a reminder that
sometimes walls need to come down

in order for God to build up something better!

The Winning Team

In elementary school there was a kid always chosen first for kickball
(with the assumption that if he was on your team, it didn't matter who else was)

he was believed to be just that good

And over the past weeks as we've been...

Team USA

and counting medals won

out of nowhere
Peter's words come alive...

"Silver and Gold have I none,
but such as I have I give unto thee.
In the Name of Jesus, rise up and walk"

and I smile
(because at the end of this race)

we win

and the only winners on

that day?
that final day?

Will be only those who are on

His team
(because He is just that good!)

This Summer May Have Just Saved My Life

I entered this year with excitement, but by early Spring
I felt myself beginning to fizzle...

My solution?

A "100 day challenge" to find and document the grace in my everyday life...

And it proved to be just what I needed...

because by the time Summer arrived my eyes were opened
to God's grace and mercy all around

In June my son graduated from Middle School...

and birds perched on a pole taught me

Then in July...

my family gathered for the most amazing
Family Reunion Weekend ever!

(reminding me that)
Family is not just who we love... it's who we are

And then it was off to Aruba...

One Happy Island

where I turned 40 and celebrated "Island Style"!

And when I returned in August...

My skin was darker
My heart was lighter
My spirit was free

so I quit my job!

(kids, don't try this at home)

And I woke up radiant and singing
this song

"It's a lovely day... hey, hey"

because I've learned that life is about choices

a series
or succession

of choices

that lay out the path before us

So, choose well

because there are so many

trying to

along the way

and at some point you will just need to...

decide to be happy
open your eyes
give thanks

and experience a summer that just may save your life!

"It's A Lovely Day... Hey, Hey"

I've been singing this song to the babies
at our child care center for two years now

and although

the days
the kids
the location

keeps changing...

the song remains the same

And this morning when I woke up singing it again
I decided to share it here today

So let it lift you
(because after all)

"It's a lovely day... hey, hey"

My Happy Place

Ten days of...

were much needed

and I feel

now able to see with fresh eyes while
still remembering the important stuff...

because this is the only thing that matters...

I am here
I am happy

Ten days on an island
have done me well

allowing the words to flow

so easily today
so effortlessly

because after all...

this is Five-Minute-Friday and
this is my happy place
