"APFLH" Children's Art Studio- Celebrate With Me

April 14-20, 2013

"Week of the Young Child" is the time of year set aside for us to celebrate the fact that

children need to play
children learn through play
children learn best through play
I personally love how this week provides us as adults more
opportunities to learn and share information

with family and friends
with other parents
with unassuming strangers caught at the right place/right time

In fact there is nothing quite as satisfying as finding the perfect moment within
an ordinary conversation to transition into a discussion about child development!

(can you tell that people just love me at parties?)

Anyway, check out some of the activities that we did during our
Children's Art Studio in celebration of April...
"Month of the Young Child"

We used some favorite books for inspiration...

"The Little Red Hen"
an old folk tale
"I Can Do It"- Sensory Table
Bird Seed
Recycled Egg Cartons

"The One and Only Special Me"
by Rozanne Lanczak Williams

Inspired our...
"Look at Me"- Frame Decorating Activity
Small Wooden Frames
Glitter Glue
White Glue
Colored Tissue Paper Squares

And "Month of the Young Child" wouldn't be complete with an ...
"I Can"- Magnetic Letters Scramble Board Activity
accompanied by a Bilingual audiobook
 "I Can! Yo Puedo!"
by Gladys Rosa Mendoza
and one of our absolute favorites...

"Me and My Senses"

by Jane Sweeny

"Using My Senses"- Fine Motor Skills Puffy Painting
Foam Squares
Homemade Puffy Paint (recipe found here)

So take the time to slow down, pull up a seat, and read...
To yourself and also with a child!

Next we're celebrating with... "Nine Candles"
